Looks great
Hello. KLASSE 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Thanks.......Fim🚂👮🏻🤚🏻
These have 3 pole motor, not five as stated in the video.
Mike. Please slow down on your verbal explanations.
No discussion on Accurascale vs Cavalex. The prospective purchaser is going to want to know which is best and doubtless that won't appear in the magazine once the models are delivered either. We want proper honest comparison and not one that flunks the issue for fear of losing advertising revenue.
This is a video where we talk to Accurascale. It's not a review or a comparison.
did you ask them how they took all west hills coach magnetic couplings because theirs are totally rubbish. Due on the market for us mere mortals but they took the lot, winds me right up. i bet they got several 0 gauge deltic engines with paperwork too
Fantastic looking models and nice to see the class getting so much attention from two major manufacturers. Its hard to choose which locomotives from accurascale to order, though coal sector is certainly tempting...
You just know that these will be great models. Preordered 60 001 as this will be the correct type for the era that I am doing. Just need to get a test coach .
Nice. But why no BR Standard 3MT 77XXX Mogul, even now?!
This video is over 3 years old. Companies choose prototypes to model that they think will sell, but you can always approach them with suggestions.
@@hornbymag I tried to persuade Hornby to do a BR 77XXX, ideally 77014 which was the last Southern Region steam loco to haul a train in 1967 (a van train). I wouldn’t trust Bachmann not to place the foundation ring overhanging the frames. This fault spoils the Bachmann 4MT 76XXX, 4MT 75XXX AND 73XXX! In all these the base of the firebox should be flush with the frames, likewise 77XXXs. Maybe I should try Accuracraft🤔
@@stephensmith799While manufacturers welcome suggestions from people, you will no doubt understand that they won't produce a model after having it requested only once. We have recently seen Hornby produce the BR Standard 2MT 2-6-0, a model that has never been produced ready to run before. The same goes for the Caprotti version of the Black 5 from Hornby and the WD 2-10-0 from Ellis Clark Trains that is upcoming. Naturally this means that other classes could also be produced in time, however there is never a guarantee and of course it could take many many years before a manufacture decides to put hundreds of thousands of pounds into design, tooling and production. It would be amazing to have everything available however it's not always realistic in a business sense. 😊
I am getting about 3-4 of these for my collection. Although I do cover O gauge mainly. I welcome this news with warmth and I am looking forward to seeing the progress.
Can We have 60008 Moel Famau in two tone grey. Please!
Yup, and 094 Tryfan
Very impressive model and very impressive depth of knowledge about the class!
Pre ordered 60018 from my local John Dutfields. Ken very coolly sold me the 56, 56018 and what a loco that is. ❤
Proper knowledge and working for a proper model manufacturer.
Looks more red than maroon on the EWS livery
This guy has a seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of the class.
I’m like 99 percent sure I heard somewhere he used to actually drive the class 60s
He explains why at the start 😊
@@lonelysignalbox...fitter/maintainer
Long live class 60!! Did your friend know about the rolling rubber ring primary suspension saga?
It's a nice model but I don't like the fixed working lamps because in that configuration it denotes a class 8 freight which is a fully unfitted freight like a long coal train of 4 wheel wagons with no continuous brakes. I would have been better if Hornby had included all the lamp irons and made them all powered so that with their own range of working lamps then any code configuration could be shown. That's just a half arsed attempt whereas with powered lamp irons allowing any code configuration to be displayed that would have been a huge leap forward and of course including a diagram of which trains carried which code.
Its a pity the Hornby class 66 could ve better and adding lights!!
Wish they made a Class 40 in this scale
Another piece of Chinese made crap supporting their military growth, aggression towards neighbours, use of slaves labour and genocide in Tibet... No, there is zero excuse for Hornby to manufacture three and while they do they have lost me as a potential customer
Apart from the fact it broke, and this is the second one you have had. its great XD Makes me laugh. Its pretty but its garbage and not that well thought out.
It isn't garbage.
@@LNER985 Well, the only two videos I have watched of it and the people have had problems with it. Dosnt bode well does it? Its obvious whats happened, yet again Hornby have rushed it to get theirs to market before anyone else. Or at least tried to. Tender connections not working, stuttering, slowing down on corners that it should have no issues with, lamps being far too fiddly and breaking, the valve gear falling out, finger prints and glue marks, not the neatest paintjob and a wealth of other issues. That from the price should not happen!!
@@NathanielKempson Plenty of people haven't had any issues with their models and just you continuing to push this disgusting grudge against Hornby.
The comment I do not want to support the hobby is totally incorrect - I have about 100 locomotives, two hundred coaches and at least 300 wagons and run a large 'at home' railway. Unfortunately Hornby models over the last three years have been the most problematic of all the manufacturers so that is why I will not be buying Hornby again.
Yet you're attitude towards Hornby clearly shows you don't want to support when the hobby would die without them. Apart from Bachmann are the only manufacturer that offers products that get people into the hobby and clearly you're ego is more important than the growing of the hobby.
@@jamtart606 Earlier in the year when the clickbait articles got released saying that the hobby is dying. At this rate people like you are pushing us towards that and in the current world of mental health issues. Negative people like you pushing the world into a dark place.
@@LNER985 I don't know what planet you're on but the hobby is most definitely NOT dying. Quite the opposite.
@@LNER985 LIES
@@jamtart606 You are literally a troll.
This model just gives me the feeling that if it just had another few months of refinements and another engineering prototype stage then it’d have been superb. Just feels slightly rushed due to the numerous issues reported. Quality control processes also need a serious review.
At the inflated price there shouldn't be any issues... I said I wouldn't buy one and I haven't, and will Not! A Brassmasters kit for £30.00 will make a big upgrade difference.
Inflated? Not really, that old tooling cost about the same when launched in terms of hours you'd have to work to afford it. Math on this claim is 2002 £4.20 minimum wage model launched for £81.50 that's ignoring everything else going on which isn't in hornbys control 20 hours of your work as a base to afford it. This one today £230 run the same thing over at an £11.44 minimum wage and that's 21 hours. Not really inflated compared to what you can minimally earn for your labour. The models haven't really got more expensive, everything else sure has but that's hardly a fault of a toy manufacturer. 😊
She does look good I am waiting for the steam generator version later in the year.👍
I see the haters are out again (that wasn't aimed at you hornbymag). I have seen more positive reviews of this Black 5 than negative ones. I somehow feel the number of negative experiences are being over-exaggerated, although I certainly accept the issues have been real. I'm staying true to the course and hope I will have the spare cash to buy the smoke generator one when it comes out later this year.
How are the inner carriages coupled?
We have fitted the magnet couplings to most of these Mk1's. They're strong enough to hold the entire set together as well as provide more close coupling too 😊
I have a steam generator one on order and have been waiting 2 1/2 years now, watching the reviews on UA-cam highlighting all the problems from the manufacturer i’m considering counselling this order.
My eye was immediately drawn to the fingerprints/glue marks and botched bits of paintwork. I wonder if the models released after the initial launch are better (the BR era models)
Hi, Technically, when the Black 5 with capprotti valve gear is released, it will not be the 1st ready to run model fitted with it, what about the Hornby Duke of Gloucester?, good review otherwise.
Yes, that's very true however it will be the first time a Black 5 with that valve gear has been produced.
@@hornbymag Only available from the Hornby Website so you can't assess it before buying like you can in a brick and motar model shop. Looks nice but having seen some of their recent horrors it will not be finding me opening my wallet for one.
@@tulyar1043 Just so there's no confusion: our business is Key Publishing and we produce Hornby Magazine as one of our titles. Hornby Model Railways are the ones who produce the models and we are not part of the same business. 😊
@@hornbymag I am fully aware of your independance from Hornby Railways. Just stating my opinion on their new Caprotti Class five.
Ultimate black 5 it sounds any thing but with the reviews that I've seen on UA-cam
It is the best black 5 on the market.
@@LNER985 Maybe there's still a gap in the market then . . . ?
So this is the second one you have tested as the first failed? If so a real problem as others have had issues and returned this loco. The lamp situation is also a totally impractical solution to adding working lights and why a working light on the tender when pulling a train? Will not be buying this model. JP
Clearly you don't want to support the hobby.
@@LNER985I totally agree with John, the tender lamp is the reason I will not buy this model. I'm sure John, like me supports the hobby by buying other models, just not this one. If only hornby bothered to find out what loco lamps are a there for they would have realised serious modellers won't want a lamp between the loco and the train.
so many reviews are showing issues with the kinematic coupler, has hornby addressed this issue, or you were lucky to get one that worked
We had no issues with the kinematic coupler on the 2 models we used to test and film, however we did have to source a second model after complications with the first one we were given.
@@hornbymag do you think hornby need to address this issue, because it is a lot of money for an item you can have issues with and get it fixed, so while the model is beautiful, if it has electrical issues people will steer clear until they hear that it has been resolved. I think your video should have touched more on the issues that you had with the model and what steps hornby should take, otherwise its just an advert glossing over issues
I think you will find this is an 'overview' not a 'review'. If you want to read the 'review' you will have to subscribe to Hornby Magazine where I'm sure they will reveal all. Did I do it right @hornbymag?
I’m getting a bit depressed by the trade mags (Hornby, Model rail, et Al). In reviews of this item they all just say excellent blah blah. They must be aware of problems reported.
@@paulwebb8018 the only one I now subscribe to is BRM partially for that reason. Generally a lot more robust in their reviewing IMO.
I remember ten years ago when a model this size cost about £30 why are they suddenly so expensive, this costs the same as the tornado model did when it first came out
Was it DCC fitted? Is your layout DCC?
Everything we run run on the GCR layout we convert to DCC, as that's what power we use for the layout. We add chips in when we need to film locos on the test track.
Not worth it I got one and it was not made well. Also, they glued the lights in so you can't change them very easy.
I am now confused, the specs state it is a 3-pole motor, but Mike Field states it is still a 5-pole motor. Is this an up to date re-working of the model out in the stockists or the same?
YES ! We have no bananas , No bananas today !
😂😂😂
I purchased a Bachmann 31-424SF (4TEP) sound fitted variant (very heavily discounted) and I can see why! The rigid drawbar connection is a real pain. So awkward to couple together. I usually run all my locos and coaching stock using "Hunt" type magnetic couplings and sadly - there is no other alternative to use on the 4TEP because of the electrical continuity needed for the lights to function. It's either "Hunt" couplings and no lights, or the rigid drawbar couplings and lights. Also, the DCC decoder is highly visible inside the driving end. Quite disappointed to be honest.
Lovely model 👍♥️
360 quid and the paint finish is pretty crap tastic. no clean crisp edges anywhere!
At £262 even die hard enthusiasts will avoid buying it These were my local trains for years I’m a life long railway fan both model and real life I just haven’t got the finances for it 😢
They remind me of the N gauge Farish model of the 80s being overly narrow at the cab ends. Its a pity as I was looking forward to these.
In NZ that £362.99 will become about $NZ800.00! For that money, I have just had a four day break including motel and petrol money for 800 km motoring in my three litre Nissan Maxima V6! I am a Southern Electric modeller, but I won’t be buying at that price! Now semi-retired in Picton, South Island, New Zealand.
Really needs the Rail Blue and Grey livery option, complete with the orange window curtains. This was the livery that these units spent the longest time in (approx, 1972 to 1988) yet it seems to always have been absent from the range
This livery was in the first release (I have one). Hopefully there will be another b/g batch next year.
Overkill with the screws, are you expecting an earthquake on your layout 😂
They look nice, although to choose to do the sole Southern liveried one seems silly when they could've done others more suitable for renumbering. The price is too high, and I wouldn't spend more than £200 on a 4-car unit tbh. Also, the audio on this video is shocking...
a very nice train im sure, but 360 odd quid😲😲 for a 30/40 pound motor🧐 and some cheap Chinese plastic and cheap Chinese led's🧐, im out🙄, maybe at a price point of £200 sound fitted then i'd buy one🤔
